MICHIGAN RECRUITING and Tennessee, among others, are higher on his board than the Maize and Blue. Accordingly, the Wolverines have shifted their recruiting resources to other, more realistic prospects at the position. Viera (Fla.) High four‑star Tre Nixon and Niceville (Fla.) four‑ star Eli Stove (the No. 4 wide receiver in the nation) are among those who have seen increased interest. • Michigan's coaching staff will use its national tour to drum up in‑ terest from out‑of‑region prospects, and one state they're looking to hit particularly hard is California. Head coach Jim Harbaugh (head coach for the San Francisco 49ers), offensive co‑ ordinator and line coach Tim Drevno (offensive coordinator at USC), spe‑ cial teams coordinator John Baxter (tight ends and special teams coach at USC), and defensive backs coach Greg Jackson (defensive backs for the San Francisco 49ers) all headed to Ann Arbor straight from positions in the Golden State, and can be big assets in luring players to head east for their college ball. • With 2016 quarterback Brandon Peters firmly in the fold, the Michi‑ gan coaching staff has shifted focus to 2017. That means the four‑star and No. 5 pro‑style passer nation‑ ally out of Avon (Ind.) High School will likely be the only signal‑caller in the 2016 class, even though Har‑ baugh brought in two quarterbacks in nearly every class in his previous stop at Stanford. Three 2017 prospects at the po‑ sition have Michigan offers, all of them ranked early four‑stars by Ri‑ vals.com. Brownsburg (Ind.) High's Hunter Johnson is the only pro‑ style option thus far, and the 6‑2, 187‑pounder has made multiple vis‑ its to Ann Arbor in the past. Both Denton (Texas) Guyer 's Shawn Robinson and Highlands Ranch (Colo.) Valor Christian's Dylan McCaffrey are dual‑threat passers, but have yet to hit the U‑M campus for the first time. McCaffrey is the son of former NFL wide re‑ ceiver Ed McCaffrey, whose older son, Christian, picked Stanford over U‑M in the 2014 class. ❏ Hunter Johnson, a four-star pro-style quar- terback at Brownsburg (Ind.) High, has made multiple visits to Ann Arbor and is an option for the Wolverines in the class of 2017. PHOTO COURTESY RIVALS.COM
