There is a charity component to each dinner, too. Visiting chefs choose an organization, and a per- centage of the proceeds from the night are given in the chef's name. "Most of the charities are food-based organizations," notes Small. "We love to be able to help whenever we can," adds owner Michael Smolak. in-depth DINE CONTACT Appleton Farms 219 County Rd. They, too, host a summer dinner series, though it is a bit different from Smolak's, as Engagement Manager Beth Zschau explains: "What makes us different is that we are more casual, family-friendly, and buffet-style, and we serve dishes prepared by a local caterer, not a well-known chef. The food is still upscale and delicious, but the atmosphere is casual." This summer, they will focus on family dinners, and will not be offering their familiar "Dinners in the Field." However, the breathtaking location, farm- fresh food, "farmy" decor, and Ipswich Ale truck serving beer and Mill River wine, plus lawn games, live folk or bluegrass music, and crafts for kids, will all still be part of the fun. On September 25, Appleton Farms will host a farm-to-table benefit event called "Taste and Table" to raise funds in support of their statewide agricultural work. save the date CONTACT Tickets can be purchased at smolakfarms. com/whim.
