Guestlist Recommends diRty confessions fRom mc flux 34 Issue 75 / 2015 DNB guestlist.net dRum&BassaRena 19 yeaRs Drum&BassArena celebrate their 19th year in the game at Heaven on May 24th "Once upon a time there was a little black boy named Rodney who possessed the mic, rumbled in the concrete jungle and had the will to beat the pill, amongst other things." - Pete Nice's foreword for Dirty D&B pioneer MC Flux is to release a book cataloguing his history as an upcoming musician on the electronic scene. Growing up in Croydon, MC Flux and his associates experienced a gritty underworld of drugs, football violence and institutionalised racism, catalogued with brutal honesty over the space of 20 chapters. Retelling his story in an informal "pub banter" setting Carl "MC Flux" Thomas pulls no punches when he invites the reader to witness his struggles, which he would one day overcome to become a pivotal figure in the emerging drum & bass scene. The big birthday bash features the perfect combination of perfect combination of d&b luminaries and fresh-faced talent. Scene legends Alix Perez, A.M.C, Blu Mar Ten, Culture Shock, Dub Motion, Frankie, Foreign Concept, Insideinfo, Nu:Tone, Rene LaVice, Total Science, T-Phonic hosted by :SP:MC and MCGQ & Stapleton, will be joined by Bad Company UK, Technimatic, Rockwell, LSB, Hybrid Minds, and Kasra. If that wasn't enough of a celebration, Drum&BassArena have also set aside a 60-minute DJ slot as a competition prize, so you could be witnessing the debut of the next big thing in d&b. alBum of the month social secuRity pResents K Jah - the tRademaRK ep Each Benefit Beats release has been a collector's item because of the immaculate artwork, message and story. This time it's K Jah's debut EP. K Jah has been around for a while, making a name for himself on KOOL FM Midlands back in the day as Kieran Jay. He then tried his hands at producing and quickly made his way to labels such as Ruff Neck Ting, Hazardous Muzik and Hocus Pocus. K Jah is now firmly part of the Benefit Beats Superheroes collective and will have lots more coming up on Benefit Beats in the near future. We look forward to K Jah sharing his super powers with the whole of planet Earth and the universe. The Trademark is a mix of off-the-hook tunes and focused rollers. 'Are You Ready' is a straight dancefloor banger. The bass has the right pulling notes and from there it just rolls on in true jungle 1996 to 2015 style. 'B Town Bounce' will remind you of the early DJ Die V Recordings rolling sub bass pressure that just keeps on moving. With 'Get Your Speakers', K Jah wastes no time at all in getting stuck in - very DJ Krust like, a bass line to blow any floor away as soon as it drops. There you have it, a smasher of an EP from K Jah straight out of the Midlands. Expect loads more great music from him, especially his remix of Social Security's Child Support classic track 'Green Cross Code' on Social Security's Classics Remix EP, released to celebrate 10 years of Benefit Beats this year.
