be refreshed. Ward did this simply by swapping in a set of Mastercraft Safety 3G racing seats and harnesses. A new Driven steering wheel was also added and blends well with the original VDO gauges and toggle switches on the dash. Some modern touches include a Lowrance Elite 5M GPS system and a set of four Baja Designs Squadron XL Pro lights sitting across the front of the vehicle, and two mounted to the frame pillars. Because Ward wanted the race car to look as it would have in the '80's he decided to paint the vehicle with a white base, featuring royal blue, red and yellow graphics. These were applied by Allcoat in Kingman, Arizona. The graphics and lettering were done by Patrick's Signs in Las Vegas, Nevada. Other details on the vehicle include additional anodizing of small parts and pieces done by Sonic Plating in Gardena, CA, Howe Performance power steering components, and Neo Synthetic oils who provided all of the vehicle's essential lubrication fluids. The finished restoration made Ward very happy that he purchased it. The colors, parts and technology used during that time is well preserved on this vehicle, and helps desert racing fans understand the tremendous growth in technology that has developed in the sport, within the last couple of decades. It didn't involve the pressures of a more popular vehicle that required period correct parts, logos, and other pieces that absolutely had to be tracked down and utilized. Nevertheless, the DirTrix DT2 race car is definitely very cool and reminds us that race vehicles can become legends as much as their drivers. Fortunately for this car, it now has a second chance at being admired for its historical value and for reminding us that groups of car and engine builders put the time and effort to create fast racing vehicles that continue to inspire us to this day.
