June 5, 2015 Dear Members: Last weekend, we underwent one of the biggest one-day drops in temperature in Burlington history from a high of 28 on Saturday to a high of 8 on Sunday! The weather front that brought us the cool weather did however bring us much needed rain and the all day precipitation was just what our course needed. While the course wintered extremely well compared to last year, nevertheless we do still have some winter kill on a few low lying areas. Dean continues to seed and fertilize these areas and is confident that they will fill in soon. We are now playing the course with the new routing. I am pleased to tell you that based on comments I have received, the vast majority of members like the change. The re-routing was part of a much larger project which included the rebuilding of all our sand traps and the repaving of our cart paths. This two year project with a budget of $1.4M was completed for $1.36M on time without borrowing a cent! Once again I would like to commend the Greens Committee chairs when the project was underway, Gord Kack and Bill Pearson. As well, thanks to Paul Davis, Finance Committee chair and Past President, George Major for keeping the Board focussed and of course, Dean Baker and his staff for overseeing the work. The Opening Day events for both Ladies and Men have concluded. 216 men teed it up on a cool April 25 th and 94 ladies participated on a much nicer Tuesday, April 28 th . The first Mixed event, held May 30 th with 30 entries, unfortunately encountered rain which forced the event to be shortened to a nine-holes. The Ladies T.A.D.G. golf and the Men's W.A.D.G are off to a great start with record number of participants in both leagues. The Match Play season has also started. Best of luck to the all golfers in their matches. On Friday, May 15 th we held the 79 th annual Burlington Invitation, a 36 hole tournament which draws the top amateur players from South Western Ontario. This year players from 33 golf clubs participated. By now I am sure you have heard that our very own Mike Penner emerged as the 2015
