Last time we checked, there were 161 days, 23 hours, 10 minutes, and 7 seconds to go before the big show—and what a show it is. With a history that stretches back to 1818, the Topsfield Fair is the result of efforts made by the Essex Agricultural Society to educate the general population on the industry's importance. What started as a "Cattle Show" has ramped up to become one of the year's most anticipated events on the North Shore. For 10 days every October, fairgoers are treated to a long lineup of special events, demonstrations, performances, and a host of agricultural- related offerings. The raves include exclamations like these: "My first time going to the fair, I had an absolute blast! 4.5 stars." "I happen to think that out of all the fairs in the Merrimack Valley and seacoast area, Topsfield is the best one as far as entertainment goes." "Amazing! Visit the German fries booth, then get a sausage sandwich and apple crisp…apple cider donuts and apple cider... yummmmmm!"
