144 ■ THE WOLFPACKER ■ FOOTBALL RECRUITING at 185 pounds on the bench press. He has been productive when healthy. As a sophomore, Emmons burst onto the scene, rush- ing 148 times for 1,834 yards and 22 touchdowns. Last fall, he was limited to 42 carries for 504 yards and nine scores. Emmons gave Georgia an early com- mitment, but the two have since parted ways. Tennessee has been heavily involved. Rivals.com lists Emmons as a four-star recruit, and the No. 4 running back and No. 116 overall player nationally. 6. NICK COE, DE Asheboro High Coe strikes fear into quarterbacks for multiple reasons, not the least of which is he mea- sured 6-5½ and 269 pounds at the Nike Opening in Charlotte and was laser- timed at 4.76 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He recorded 70 tackles and 19 sacks as a junior. Coe is an accomplished dual-sport ath- lete. He won the state 3-A heavyweight wrestling title and then followed that up by winning two national tournaments this spring — FloNationals and National High School Coaches Association Junior Nation- als. FloWrestling ranks him as the No. 5 high school heavyweight in the country. If he can get his academics in order, Coe will become a prized commodity. Auburn, East Carolina, Miami, North Carolina and Virginia Tech comprise his top five. He is rated by Rivals.com as a four-star prospect, and the No. 13 strongside defensive end and No. 168 overall recruit in the country. 7. SEAN POLLARD, OL Southern Pines Pinecrest The best value about Pollard is his abil- ity to play multiple posi- tions on the offensive line. The 6-5, 295-pounder lines up across the front for Pinecrest, and he could do the same at Clemson, which he committed to last winter after nearly giving a verbal to Duke. Rivals.com rates Pollard as a four-star talent, and the No. 10 offensive guard and No. 192 overall prospect in the nation. 8. JULIAN OKWARA, DE Charlotte Ardrey Kell High Okwara will need to get consider- ably stronger, but he has the frame at 6-4 and 215 pounds to add that strength. What is most impressive about Okwara is his agility and explosiveness off the snap. Okwara, who registered a 31.5-inch ver- tical leap at the Nike Opening in Charlotte, had 90 tackles and 10 sacks last season. He made a verbal commitment in the spring to join his older brother Romeo Okwara at Notre Dame. Rivals.com rates Okwara as a four-star recruit and the No. 17 weakside defensive end nationally. 9. LANDON DICKERSON, OL Hudson South Caldwell NC State was Dickerson's first offer last summer. Things have changed in a little more than a year. Dickerson's stock skyrocketed this spring. He posted impressive measur- ables at the Nike Opening in Charlotte, checking in at 6-5 and 306 pounds while running the 40- yard dash in 5.28 seconds and the shuttle in 4.79 seconds. He also vertically jumped 27.3 inches. Rivals.com now lists Dickerson as a four-star talent, and the No. 3 offensive guard and No. 48 overall prospect in the land. He has a top three of South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. 10. CHAZZ SURRATT, QB Denver East Lincoln High Surratt is an athlete and a winner. The 6-3, 195-pound lefty com- pleted 281 of 414 passes last fall for 4,338 yards with 51 touchdowns and 11 picks, rushed 156 times for 1,239 yards and 22 scores and led East Lincoln to an undefeated 2-AA state title. He then led the hoops squad to an unblemished mark until a loss in the state championship game. Surratt is rated by Rivals.com as a four- star recruit and the No. 14 dual-threat signal-caller in the country. He verbally committed to Duke in the spring, but then flipped to North Carolina in June. 11. KEION JOYNER, LB Havelock High Joyner's physical potential is obvious. At 6-4 and 220 pounds, he has above-average athleti- cism and can be a sideline- to-sideline linebacker. His production, though, fell off slightly from his sophomore to junior year, although he still finished with 86 tackles, 16 stops for loss and 5.5 sacks last fall. Joyner has a top four of Florida State, LSU, North Carolina and Texas A&M. Rivals.com rates him as a five-star tal- ent, and the No. 4 outside linebacker and No. 25 overall player nationally. However, Rivals.com listed Joyner's stock as down after a subpar showing at the Five-Star Challenge presented by Under Armour in Baltimore in June. 12. DIONDRE OVERTON, WR Greensboro Page High You cannot teach size, and Overton is a 6-5 and 195-pound receiver. He is also a natural on the gridiron. In his first season of high school football, Overton caught 62 passes for 1,187 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also plays basketball and averaged 14.6 points per game last season for Page. The one knock on Overton is speed — he ran a laser-timed 4.79-second 40- yard dash at the Charlotte Nike Opening Regional. He still is rated as a four-star prospect, and the No. 26 wide receiver and No. 132 overall player in the country by Rivals.com. Clemson and Tennessee are his two favorites. 13. JOSH BROWN, DE Charlotte Mallard Creek High Brown's athleticism and one-on-one abilities shine, especially in camp and com- bine settings. He was laser-timed at the Charlotte Nike Opening at 4.81 seconds No. Name Pos. Hometown/High School College 21. Rico Dowdle RB Asheville/A.C. Reynolds 22. Keyshawn Canady CB Teachey/Wallace-Rose Hill 23. C.J. Freeman RB Greensboro/Northern Guilford South Carolina 24. Kennedy McKoy RB Lexington/North Davidson 25.
