But a training rink offers just as many advantages, especially when it comes to offseason training and development. Custom Ice Rinks recently put in a 3-on-3 training sheet at the newly opened 3O3 Hockey Training Center in Maple Grove, Minnesota. The smaller ice surface allows for teams (appropriately made up of three players and goalie on each side) to work in a tight space. Puck touches increase on the smaller surface and the unstructured rate of play speeds up. Like pond hockey, the smaller sheet encourages players to get creative and learn the game when in tight spaces. Above the rink at 3O3 is a hockey- specific dryland training center and mezzanine area to offer players the full training experience, on and off the ice. 3O3 Hockey offers leagues, camps, tournaments and drop-ins.
