'Wonna Deez Nites' is the follow up to 'Oh Jah Jah', which peaked at #1 on iTunes Reggae Single Chart and debuted in the Top 5 on the U.S. Billboard Reggae Digital Song Chart. Whereas he went more towards the roots vibe on his previous song, Murphy has gone for a summery, beach party feel on this one, with Beenie Man bringing the dancehall energy like only he can. We're definitely intrigued to see where Eddie Murphy takes us next on his reggae journey! GuEStLiSt REcommENdS: EddiE muRphy & BEENiE mAN The comedian is keeping it reggae Born from the ashes of several bands from the south- coast ska-punk scene, the collective began playing live festivals and shows together in 2005. Their reputation on the circuit has built steadily, and recent years have seen the band appear on bills with reggae starlet Hollie Cook and David Rodigan favourites The Skints, as well as ska legends The Skatalites. Their reputation as a live entity is clearly highly regarded, and it is easy to see why, even on record. The Meow Meows have reunited the prestigious producer and reggae legend Prince Fatty for their new EP Friends On Benefits. The title track is a wonderfully danceable cut, showcasing a style that has clearly been refined through years of moving feet in Brighton basements. 'Friends On Benefits' is a riotous slice of ska, with sharp, tongue-in- cheek wordplay. It perfectly encapsulates the band's way of addressing all that is "wonderful and disastrous about the world…in a way that is idiotic and joyful". This dancey goodness isn't surprising given that the track and entire EP emerged as part of a commission by Fuel Theatre for their 'Music to Move to' project, which saw ten musical acts team up with choreographers to create works that would inspire the general public to dance. We would say they've definitely succeeded! Already deemed a timeless classic, Morgan Heritage's album Strictly Roots reached no. 1 on the Billboard and US iTunes Reggae Charts – and they're set to dominate again with 'Light It Up', out 31st July. In a historical move, 'Light it Up' features two reggae dynasties; The Royal Family of Reggae are joined by Jo Mersa Marley, the grandson of the iconic Bob Marley and son of Stephen Marley. Morgan Heritage say: "'Light it Up' talks about being a shining light in the world. We believe this light to be love. By introducing a new generation of reggae ambassadors in Jo Mersa Marley to the fusion of dubstep and roots reggae, this song really comes to life".
