PLAYER PROFILE TODD DUSOSKY by Tom Wynn S tanding tall at 6'1'' and 200 pounds, many know number 17, Todd Dusosky, as a powerful force on the turf for the Milwaukee Wave indoor team. As a threatening forward on the grass for the A-League's Wave United (outdoor team), he is becoming even more of a household name in Milwaukee. Todd has proven in this current A-League campaign that he can make a smooth transition from indoor to outdoor with the only soccer organization to have both an indoor and outdoor club. He is one of five Wave United players who suited up year round for the Milwaukee Wave soccer organization in 2002- 2003. The other players along with Todd who are also on both teams include his twin brother Troy, Matt Schmidt, Joe Hammes, Jeremy Aldrich, and Greg Howes. Todd has definitely made a name for himself on the grass, as well as a known threat to all of the goalkeepers in the league trying to protect the back of the net. Yet, some may not know that Todd is not entirely new to the A- League and professional outdoor soccer, and that he has played for two other A-League teams. In 1997 the Minnesota native played with his hometown team, the Minnesota Thunder before playing with the Milwaukee Rampage in 2000. He scored three goals and had one assist during both the 1997 and 2000 campaigns. Todd enjoys the outdoor game and was glad to be given the opportunity to play with the Wave United. Fans of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) may recognize some other familiar faces on the Wave United team, such as Jim Larkin, John Ball, Anthony Maher and Dino Delevski. When asked about what it is like to play on the same team in outdoor and face them as opponents in indoor, Todd responded "It is still competitive because everyone wants to be the best he can be, but this is all of our professions, we have to play as a team if we want to win. In indoor we battle these guys on the field. Ball marked me in indoor and Troy marked Dino, but it is always fun to travel and run into old teammates." Thus far, Todd has recorded 18 points, seven goals and four assists for the Wave United, leading the team in points and goals scored, and is ninth in the league with points and goals scored (as of Week 15). He has been named to the A-League's Team of the Week twice, in weeks six and eleven, and was named Player of the Week in week six with two game-winning goals against Charlotte and Minnesota. In a win over the Indiana Blast on June 29, 2003 Todd scored his first hat trick of his professional outdoor career and was only the second A-League player to score a hat trick in the 2003 campaign. His scoring frenzy helped lead the Wave United to a 4-0 victory over the Blast. Regardless of whether he is converting passes to goals, or dancing around defenders to blast the ball to the back of the net, he consistently helps to put points on the board. As a forward, Todd calls himself a target player, thus he constantly wants the ball at his feet. At times he says it can be frustrating because the game is not as fast paced as indoor and he may make a 30 yard run and never have contact with the ball. Nevertheless, he stays optimistic and continues to make plays. "Being a forward, I want to get goals. We have the talent, but as a new team we had to focus first on defense and then start scoring goals." photo: Gary Dineen Todd is a true play-maker and when he is not scoring goals, he is dishing out assists to his teammates. On July 11, 2003 despite loosing to the Portland Timbers 4-3, Todd had assisted all three goals scored by fellow United players, Josh Timbers, John Ball, and Chad Dombrowski. It seems that so far in 2003 Todd is having a banner year no matter if he is playing indoor or outdoor. Not only has he contributed largely to the success of the Wave United, but he also played a vital role as a forward for the Milwaukee Wave. When asked about Todd's transition from indoor to outdoor Art Kramer, Head Coach of the Wave United stated, "I feel Todd is one of the premier target players in the Major Indoor Soccer League. I'm not surprised that Todd has made such a smooth transition and has become one of the leading scorers in the A- League." In this last season with the Wave, he scored his 500th career goal and his 200th assist. Todd also made his all-star debut in Milwaukee in March and scored two, 2-point goals in that game. In the playoffs, he led the team with 15 points, 4-2 point goals and 7 assists. Todd, along with his twin brother Troy, played soccer together growing up and all throughout high school. GOAL Indoor • August/September 2003 • 17 Although in December of 1996, they were separated by different professional indoor teams only to be reunited by the Wave during the 2001-2002 season after Troy was acquired through a trade. Todd started his professional indoor career at 19 with the Cleveland Crunch. Even before his career began in Cleveland he had connections to them while playing for Anoka High School under former Cleveland Crunch coach Bruce Miller. Whether playing indoors or outdoors Todd Dusosky is a force to be reckoned with. This powerful forward has had no trouble adjusting to the grass to make plays and score goals. "It doesn't matter whether he is playing indoor, outdoor, or U.S. National Futsal, Todd is one of the best target players in the country," said Keith Tozer, Head Coach of the Milwaukee Wave. Expect to see #17, for many seasons to come both indoor and outdoor.
