The deal was consummated in order to grant the wish of the 44-year old Nogueira and his family to return to the San Diego area for the remainder of his career. The Mozambique native had previously played for the Sockers from 1988-92 where one of his former teammates was Brian Quinn, San Diego's current Head Coach and General Manager. "I'd like to thank (Wave Coach) Keith Tozer, the Wave organization, the fans, and the Milwaukee area community for a total- ly awesome experience," said Nogueira. "My family and I had 11 great years in Milwaukee but we felt it was time to move on. I'm very appreciative of what Keith has done to make this happen." "Obviously, this is an emotional day for Victor, myself, and the Wave organization," said Tozer. "Victor was the first player we signed in 1992 when I became coach of the Wave and he's been a tremendous presence for us both on and off the field. However, he and his family expressed a desire to return to San Diego where they plan on settling at the end of Victor's playing career. We said we would do our best to accommodate him if we could make a deal that would still help our franchise move forward. I think we've done that based on the caliber of players we've acquired." Bowers, a three-time league Defender of the Year, is from San Diego and played briefly with the Sockers during the 1991-92 season. "I'm sorry to see Sean go. He served this organization with distinction and was a true leader. I wanted him to stay in Baltimore but he and his family wanted to get back home to San Diego, so we traded him for a player that we think will help us," Blast Owner Ed Hale said. "Chile was one of the top scorers in the League last season and we hope that by adding an Hispanic player to the Blast roster, we will generate interest in the Blast among Baltimore's growing Hispanic population." Added Blast Head Coach Tim Wittman, "Chile, in my mind, is one of the most skilled players in the MISL. He's great on the ball, can do things that no one else in the League can do and will be very exciting to watch. He will be a great attribute to our team and I am excited to have him on the Blast roster." Farias, a native of Santiago, Chile, finished the regular season ranked second in the MISL Spalding Scoring Race with 111 points, scoring at least one goal or one assist in 29 games and was named to the 2003 West All-Star Team.
