COMMITMENT PROFILE Michigan's satellite camp in South Florida June 6 paid big dividends, with several players earning offers — and committing in the near aftermath. N o n e o f t h o s e pledges were big- ger in a literal sense than 6-5, 245-pound defen- sive end Rashad Weaver. However, from a recognition perspective, the unranked, two- star prospect may be the smallest in the class. The product of Cooper City (Fla.) High School is de- termined to show that the rankings have his talent pegged all wrong. H e c e r t a i n l y opened the Michi- gan staff's eyes with a strong showing at the camp. "I started camp at defensive end and went all the way through all the drills and the one-on-ones, winning those," he explained. "Then with like 10 minutes left, they pulled me over to tight end one-on- ones, and I did four routes and caught a couple balls. They told me they like me at both positions, and they're re- cruiting me as just a big athlete. "A couple days later, I was sitting on the couch, and Coach [Jay] Harbaugh had asked me something. I don't re- member what I responded, but he said, 'How would you feel if I told you that you have a full scholarship offer to the Univer- sity of Michigan?' "I told him that I was sitting there smiling like a little kid that just got a whole bunch of candy. Before I got off the phone with them they said like me on both sides." It didn't take Weaver long to pounce on the of- fer, picking Michi- gan over runners- up Illinois and Syracuse (along with offers from Air Force, USF and several Ivy League schools). He spoke with his mother, made the decision and immediately tried to plan out an opportunity to visit Ann Arbor. "They were right at the top," he said. "I had not listed any [favor- ite schools], but they went right to the top, just with the academic and football level compared to the other schools. The only other contenders at the top were Illinois and Syracuse, just Jumbo Athlete Rashad Weaver Could Make Big Rise In Rankings Michigan coaches were impressive by Weaver at their satellite camp in South Florida on June 6, and he didn't waste any time pulling the trigger once an offer came.
