By Margaret Brand The Review-Mirror The Township of Rideau Lakes will be holding a public consulta- tion on August 13, 6 p.m. at the Portland Communi- ty Hall 911 numbering and the naming of duplicate roads. Property owners on R, O, and B roads will receive direct notice of the meeting. Seventeen years after amalgamation council is ready to bite the bullet and make a decision on how to address the problem. The decision has an impact on other taxpayers who will collectively be paying for the changes which could be as little as $4,000 to as much as $87,000. Duplicate names and numbers have the poten- tial for emergency person- nel to not reach the appro- priate address when they are needed. Roads in the Township of South Elmsley ward and the Township of Bas- tard and South Burgess were named R, O, and B before amalgamation. Properties in Bastard and South Burgess have additional 911 identifica- tion issues because of an unorthodox 911 number- ing system which did not take into account future Justin Martin President 613-530-0773 RR 2 Westport, ON K0G 1X0 jtmartin@kingston.net 4 Septic Systems 4 Excavating 4 Landscaping 4 Road Work 4 Rock Excavating 4 Trucking 4 Residential & Commercial Snow Plowing & Sanding 4 Damp Proofing LTD. 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 43 Bedford St., Westport 613-273-8848 soho@rideau.net Mirror The Review Thursday, July 23, 2015 Serving North Leeds and area since 1893 Vol. 123, No. 29 $1 incl. tax "In the depths of winter I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer." This Thursday to Sun- day, July 23 to 26 the Delta Fair will be celebrat- ing its 185th year of bring- ing the agricultural com- munity together in North Leeds. The fair brings four days of games, exhibi- tions, competitions, enter- tainment and fun on the midway, a summer tradi- tion for almost185 years Changes to the lineup this year include more entertainment every day and during the day with the addition of a second entertainment tent. Fair organizers are hop- ing the tents will be pro- viding shelter from sun and not from rain. "A 30 per cent chance of rain is a seventy per cent chance for sun," said fair secretary-treasurer William Morris. Additional entertain- ment and additional mar- keting to bring more visi- tors to this year's 185th anniversary fair is cour- tesy of Celebrate Ontario Rideau Canal boat traf- fic fell from 2014 after weather played a large fac- tor in the decrease in ves- sels after May's robust start to the navigation sea- son. Throughout the month of June the Rideau Canal saw an average of 17 days of rain throughout the sys- tem. The average total of 150mm of rain is almost double the 78.4 mm term average of rain for June. While the total number of boats through the sys- tem fell, the loss of traffic was heavier in the south- ern end of the canal which dropped from 6879 vessels last year to 6480 this year, a drop of about five per cent. The number of vessels in the northern section increased slightly from 829 to 836 in June and in the central section increased slightly from 2288 last year to 2307 in 2015. Over May and June there was a slight increase of 1.8 per cent in the num- ber of vessels over 2014. The number of Ameri- can boaters increased dra- matically over last year with a jump from 542 in 2014 to 968 in 2015. The number of Ameri- can boaters in the southern section increased from 444 to 629 this year. In the cen- tral section American ves- sels increased from just 24 last year to 108. In the Central section they increased from 74 in June 2014 to 231 this June. The number of boaters from Quebec was 710 in 2014 and 708 this year. The number of Ontario origin boats decreased from 3031 in 2014 to 2412 in 2015. The increase in Ameri- can boaters is echoed in an increase in Americans travelling to Canada through Eastern Ontario entry points in June. At Lansdowne, 47,255 Americans crossed into Canada in June 2014 compared to 59,710 in June 2015. At Prescott numbers of Americans increased from 9,796 in June 2014 to 12,432 in 2015. At Cornwall num- bers increased from 5,773 in 2014 to 8,626 in 2015. Canadians have made fewer trips to the United States, dropping from 72,176 in June 2014 to 58,030 last month at Lans- downe. The numbers also dropped at Prescott, from 46,368 to 35,410. Compa- rable figures were not available for the Cornwall crossing.
