replacement. The availability of these LED
stadium lights came at the right time for
us. The ballast boxes for the metal halide
lights were 27 inches long, 8 inches wide
and 6 inches deep. They were unsightly,
difficult to clean around, and a potential
hazard, as children would stand on them.
Our old system required three ballast boxes
on the floor at the base of each of our 16
light poles. The LED lights have a built-in
ballast. It is a dramatic improvement in the
appearance of our arena."
The Sportsdome's 62- by 120-yard field allows
for regulation, full-field games. The facility has
hosted scholastic and collegiate soccer, field
hockey, and lacrosse. "High-quality lighting
is especially important for these high-caliber
games," states Nick.
Another considerable advantage to the LED
lights is that they are "instant-on" fixtures.
The old metal-halide lights required about
10 minutes to reach full illumination. The
lights can be turned off whenever the arena
is not in use, even if there is a brief down-time
between events. "The LED lights do not
require a lengthy warm-up period. This system
offers the capability to illuminate fully at the
flick of a switch," raves the owner.
Many people today are environmentally
conscious, and customers appreciate
businesses that reduce their carbon footprint
through green initiatives. In addition to the
LED lighting upgrade, Hudson Valley
Sportsdome recently remodeled their
restrooms, installing waterless urinals
and energy-efficient hand dryers.
