24 Andy Logar oversees the Sports Managers and markets the facility. He solicits alternative business, such as dog shows, home shows and other special events. Total Turf was one of the first facilities to implement Bubble Ball, a USIndoor program that adds variety and value to corporate events and birthday parties. "My client is the Sports Manager, not the end user," says Jerry, who manages the day-to- day operations. "We wholesale to the Sports Manager, and they retail to the world." Other businesses within Total Turf, like the café and the gym, have access to 15,000 athletes because the Sports Managers are doing their jobs. Sports Managers are coaches and managers. They are good at what they do because of their experience with games and because they know how to run a business, including how to get clients. The owners put them in a position to succeed by helping them however they can, whether it be planning, branding or marketing. The soccer program is a great example. Don D'Ambra, the Sports Manager for soccer, played professionally for 15 years and was a player coach for the Philadelphia KiXX. He is currently the head coach of the men's soccer program at St. Joseph's University. He and Jerry happened to go to high school together. Don worked as a trainer when three of the owners coached together. Once during a practice, Jerry shared with Don some ideas he had for Total Turf. Don had always wanted to start his own academy but wasn't sure how. Jerry, Bob, Andy and Brad helped him by expanding the model of his training business into Don D'Ambra Soccer Academy. "Forty-eight percent of our revenue is soccer. That's Don. We are proud of the Sports Managers. It's not like we went and stole someone else's business. Our soccer business started grass roots. Our lacrosse, same thing." Incubator for New Businesses One participant in the Mommy & Me program told Jerry that she loved the facility but hated the website.
