The popularity and growth
of the UTV class in SCORE has
turned the Schueler's and oth-
ers into professional racers.
But unlike the other UTV races,
SCORE presents some unique
challenges that UTV racers
have had to learn to deal with.
"SCORE racing has made me a
better driver in becoming more
aware of things like the distance
of the course," says Schueler.
"In SCORE you do not have pits
every 40 miles like in other rac-
es, where you can have your
crew work on your vehicle. You
have to be aware that you may
not see anyone on your team
for 100 miles or more. Because
of that, you become somewhat
reserved to ensure that you will
get the car to the next pit."
Along with becoming a better
driver, experienced Baja rac-
ers know there's much more
required to win. Teams need
to work together to handle ev-
erything from pit placement to
being able to handle unexpected
events. "SCORE presents a lot
