A productivity tip:
Try 'timeboxing'
To be more productive, you might try "timeboxing," an
idea suggested by Sarah Pavey and the Mind Tools team
(see www.mindtools.com).
To employ timeboxing, allocate a certain number of
hours or days to each of your discrete tasks, and then
use only that amount of time to complete the task.
Focusing on completing the task within an allotted time
(set a timer on your computer or smartphone) can push
you to ignore distractions and sharpen your focus.
Limiting yourself to the task at hand will move
you away from multi-tasking, which tends to cost
time and concentration. Timeboxing can also prod
you to schedule your high-priority work to your peak
productive period, the time of day when you are most
alert.
There are drawbacks to timeboxing, say Pavey and
her team. You may find it hard to interrupt your train
of thought and switch to another task. Also, some jobs
require a high level of quality output, no matter how
long they take.
