Depth too is an issue, particularly at end and in the secondary. Still, Replogle has a good feeling about this defense, especially in com- parison to two years ago, when he was a freshman in Hazell's first sea- son. Then, the defense had players just running around, trying to make a play but too frequently disregard- ing their own assignment or those of their teammates. Trust was at a minimum. "They weren't doing anything in- tentionally wrong, but weren't stick- ing with their gap and it was putting other people in vulnerable positions," Replogle said. "Last year I think we got better at that, but there's still room for improvement and I think this spring, we had people consis- tently staying in their gaps and doing their assignments and that made our defense a lot better. "It's something that Coach Hudson has kept saying is that we've got to stay in our foxholes and we'll be a good de- fense. We were able to do it this spring; we'll have to do it in camp and if we want to be successful next year, we'll have to continue to get better at it."
