That's not stopped it, however, from enjoying another mid-summer run of early verbal commitments. Scholarship availability is always a moving target, so what might be available on paper today might look entirely different in a matter of months. But the simple fact that there are only a dozen se- niors on scholarship currently assures a small signing class come February. Though there's a long way to go before the signing date, as Purdue should know better than anyone, the Boilermak- er coaching staff has gotten some of its biggest needs filled right off the bat, particularly in the secondary, where Rivals.com three-star cornerbacks Jake Long, Brandon Shuman and Josh Hayes project to join a depth chart that gets blown up entirely after this season. Purdue came away from the 2015 recruiting cycle with no high school wide receivers but could be on the verge of a robust haul there, as well. Georgia athlete and projected re- ceiver Benaiah Franklin is already committed and a pair of slot receiver prospects also could be on the verge of committing, but it's perhaps a one-or-the-other situation, though, between Iowa native Jack Wegher and Tennessee's Nate Johnson.
