VOLUME 25, ISSUE 6 73 JAKE LONG: One of the Boilermak- ers' top targets at cornerback, Long was won over this summer largely by the prospect of early playing time at Purdue. "They told me I'd have a really good chance to play, that I wouldn't just automatically get redshirted," Long said. "That really helped. That was one of my concerns. I'd like to play right away if I can." The Rivals.com three-star pros- pect may be talented enough to. He's 6-foot, long and ran docu- mented 4.4-range times at events this winter. Long said Purdue projects him as a "field corner." "Because I have enough length and speed that I can press some- body," Long said, "and at the field spot (playing out in space), that's what you do a lot of the time, just press." Long fielded some interest as a safety also, but should be a corner all the way at Purdue, which will need help at corner right away. MAC schools recruited Long for offense as well. He chose Purdue over scholar- ship offers from West Virginia and Virginia, as well as several smaller schools, and interest — which may not altogether stop, by the way — from Ohio State, Michigan State and others in the Big Ten. NAVON MOSLEY: After signing defensive tackle Eddy Wilson out of West Bloomfield High School in Michigan last year, Purdue had an early in with Mosley. It paid off. The 5-11, 180-pound Mosley, a Rivals.com three-star safety, com- mitted in mid-June over offers from Illinois and several MAC schools. "They really like my ball skills, how I can really go to the ball when it's in the air," Mosley said, "as well as my run support, how quickly I come downhill. I'm really quick at reading the run." DYLAN POWELL: Purdue will sign several offensive linemen in its 2016 class, but one thing was a must: Center. The Boilermakers offered Powell during a spring visit and landed a commitment from him a few weeks later, locking down one of their non-negotiable needs for this class. "Coach Freeman and Coach Bridge had been telling me that they needed their center of the future and they thought I could be that guy," Powell said. "That really appealed to me. I want to be that guy for them in the future that they can rely on to lead their line and basically run the offense up front. That's kind of what the center does." The Rivals.com three-star pros- pect from Hannibal, Mo., plays tackle for his high school, but will move in- side at the college level, where Pur- due projects the 6-3, 270-pound line- man's athleticism to translate well. "I feel like I finish well and I'm relentless," Powell said. "I try to be the hardest-working guy on the field as an offensive lineman and main- tain my blocking all the way through to the whistle, to make sure my guy can't make a play."
