FROM THE ROUGH COURSE CARE
STEP 2:
Remove perimeter
Remove 6-to-8 feet
sod from the perimeter
the bunker to act as
work area. In most cases
the sod will not be in
enough shape to use
so it should be discarded.
Knowing we were not
to disturb much outside
of the bunker due to
proximity to the green,
only needed to remove
strips of sod.
Sod and sand removed and
existing drainage exposed
STEP 3:
Identify original bunker edge
When stripping the sod and removing
the contaminated sand, you will more
than likely uncover the existing/original
bunker edges. If the bunker is a green-
side bunker, such as in this case, it's likely
that sand has accumulated on the green
from sand shots blasted toward the cup.
Several feet of sand can accumulate
this area given enough time.
You may also find that the original
soil edge is several feet from where
believe it to be and potentially buried
under several inches and even feet
sand. In this photo we uncovered
feet of sand that built up over the
bunker edge and completely changed
character and playability of the bunker.
Nearly 2 feet of sand built up
over the original bunker edge.
