A tow bar you sell at the time of sale, a weight-distributing hitch you sell at the time of sale, but chassis perfor- mance gets them back into the dealership after the time of sale," she says. "It also brings in the customer who's looking at used units out there, and a lot of cus- tomers who've had their motorhomes for two or three years but don't want to trade them in." As Blue Ox depends on knowledge- able dealership F&I staff to offer hitches and tow bars when a customer buys a new motorhome, it's also teaching service department personnel to sell its chassis per- formance packages. "I love training, I love education, and I love partnerships and people," says Kietzmann, who once taught business communications at a university level before joining Blue Ox in 1994. "My philosophy? People buy from people." Building on a Legacy She had the opportunity, beginning as a vice president in charge of starting and developing an HR department, to serve under Hesse as Blue Ox grew into the industry player it is today. "We've always worked side by side on a lot of different things," she says. "Jay left the company on very firm footing with a lot of people prepared for a lot of dif- ferent roles. It wasn't just transitioning the role of myself from vice president to CEO and president, but there were a lot of other people who had to step up to the plate and assume different management roles they had not had before. The focus for Blue Ox is really building on the legacy that Jay left behind." To continue his heritage, Kietzmann made sure future additions to the Blue Ox lineup weren't created in a vacuum. "Jay had the benefit of growing up in the company and knowing how every department works. I knew the basics of each team, but to me, every team's success is dependent on somebody else.
