W ith the Great Recession firmly in the rearview mirrow, MOR- ryde is riding high once again. The Elkhart, Ind.-based RV supplier has enjoyed rapid growth every year since 2011; employment has tripled in recent years (to about 615 workers); the busi- ness has expanded multiple times in recent years to now include 460,000 square feet of facilities spread over seven buildings and three campuses; and the company is making more products for more markets than ever. While the dramatic recovery of the RV market has certainly fueled MOR- ryde's growth in recent years, there's much more to it than that, according to Sales and Marketing Manager Jack Enfield, a 28-year MORryde veteran who has seen the company overcome many challenges over the years. "We've had mostly steady growth since we started in 1966 with a suspension system for trailers. In the '70s there was a down- turn due to the gas crunch," Enfield says. "After that, we've had consistent growth until the recession in 2008 – when we had a significant sales decrease. We went from 400 employees to less than 200. … After 2009, sales began to increase again. Since 2011, every year has been a record year for us. Employees increased threefold; we now have almost 615 employees." Seeking New Markets, Opportunities What allowed MORryde to survive and even thrive during those lean times decades ago and more recently? In a word: Diversification. "When the market crashed in 2008, we developed an OEM component and MORryde is Riding High The supplier credits market diversification for helping it rebound strongly in recent years. Staying U.S. based and sourcing from American suppliers also benefits the company.
