40 GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED starting now. It still has Anthrop at wide receiver, but not for much longer. "Home run hitters are a big thing and that's what we had last year, two in the backfield," Parker said. "This year, we're different, but trying to do the same things, and we have to be able to hit home runs at wide receiver, too. "Speed helps the home run get hit." COMINGS AND GOINGS After losing short-lived commitments Jacoby Hill, an Atlanta defensive end, and Ohio cornerback Jake Long — Long switched to West Virginia; Hill re- opened his recruitment around the time he visit- ed Tulane — Purdue sits with nine commitments in late-August for a class that projects as of now to have less than a dozen scholarships available to it. It's likely that number will grow before February, but as it stands heading into September, the Boiler- makers' class would appear largely full already, though it will still need to address needs on the defensive line, most notably, and hold on to its remaining commitments, which won't be easy. Purdue will have to fight to keep linebacker/rush end commitment Collin Miller, who committed to the Boil- ermakers this summer then quickly separated himself from any mention of it. He is looking closely at Indiana and being recruiting still by Louisville. Likewise, cornerback Brandon Shuman of Flor- ida continues to hear from other major programs and has yet to visit Purdue, to which he committed in June. Purdue may have to fight to keep him, as well. j Tom Campbell Purdue has to replace Danny Anthrop's speed after he graduates. 2016 COMMITMENTS Player Pos Ht Wt Hometown/School Luke Campbell OT 6-4 275 Lewis Center, Ohio/Oletangy Benaiah Franklin WR/ATH 6-0 205 Marietta, Ga./Wheeler Josh Hayes CB 5-11 174 Indianapolis, Ind./Pike Nate Johnson WR 5-11 175 Thompson's Station, Tenn./Independence Collin Miller LB/DE 6-3 230 Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern Navon Mosley S 6-0 185 West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield Dylan Powell C 6-3 270 Hannibal, Mo./Hannibal Brandon Shuman CB 5-11 170 Miami/Gulliver Prep Jack Wegher* WR/RB 5-11 200 Sioux City, S.D./IMG Academy (Fla.) * Expected mid-year signee
