September 1, 2015 Dear members, Having a full and robust membership is critical to the wellbeing of a successful golf club. Four years ago we introduced a trial membership program that allowed people to come in and kick the tires before deciding to join our club. The program has been successful beyond our expectations. However the trial program on its own will not keep the membership at the level needed to sustain a healthy balance sheet. At the present time 20% of our members are above age 75. Although the newer members have reduced the average age of our membership there will be significant turnover in the next few years. Over the last number of months the membership committee lead by Ron More has done an extensive study of our membership levels and make up of our members. The study revealed three major issues. 1. The ratio of female members to male members has been declining. 2. The number of couple members has been declining 3. Our discount offering a spouse joining our club is significantly less than the 21 clubs in our area that we surveyed. On August 27, 2015 the Board of Directors approved the reduction of initiation fees for spouses to join our club. Effective from the beginning of the 2015 golf season a spouse that joins the Burlington Golf and Country Club will pay one half of the normal initiation for the appropriate category. For example a spouse joining as "A Category" will now pay an initiation fee of $17,500. A spouse joining as "B Category" will pay $14,000. All other rules will continue to apply including limits in each category. The Board is confident that this change will encourage more spouses to join and we will continue to remain one of the premier golf clubs in Ontario. Regards, John Stookes, President
