rom the early days
of desert racing,
Volkswagen-powered
bugs and buggies
where the popular
vehicles that were
lightweight, easy to work on,
and inexpensive enough to race
and be competitive. When tube-
framed vehicles evolved onto
the desert scene, one and two
seat buggies, primarily using
stock VW 1/2-1600 cc engines,
transmissions, and suspensions,
ran as separate race classes for
several years. By the mid-1980's
the one and two-seaters (hence
the term one-two, not "half")
were combined to become
