This allows clean air to pass through the center of the separator tubes and into the engine's air intake duct. To keep the air constantly moving, even when the vehicle is standing still, S&B incorporated a compact, but high-CFM scavenge fan. It's also used to force the dust out through exit slots in the tubes, where it's all pushed out from an evacuation port behind the unit. There's minimal residual dirt or dust left in the housing. Cyclonic separation has been used in a variety of applications, including military, the agricultural industry, and is most commonly used in vacuum cleaners.
