truck, in hopes of a podium finish or two for this new
effort.
As Smith tells it, the all-new effort will carry a Team
Atkinson banner with driver Javier Quiros, and co-
driver/navigator George Stewart in the cockpit of
the Toyota Tacoma, one that Quiros and Stewart are
counting on to sustain what's been a decade's long
family tradition of winning races. "Yes, this is the first
TT Spec race truck that Herbst-Smith Fabrication
has built," says Smith. However, while it might be the
first TT Spec to officially roll out of their large and
spotless fabrication shop, the results will be far from
experimental. Team Herbst and Mike Smith are in it to
win races, which has been the Terrible Herbst calling
card from day one.
Before they can get there, however, Smith and his
team have been working around the clock to dial
in the Toyota Tacoma for the SCORE Baja 500 and
SCORE Baja 1000; and eventually the entire SCORE
series. "This is an extremely exciting, fairly new class
