velocity impacts without adding

For now, the switch to
the SA2015 helmets will be
a big deal for many SCORE
racers. While new helmets are
expensive, manufacturers warn
that that's not a reason to have
the best protection available.
"As a collective industry, helmet
manufacturers all strive to
make a better helmet," says
Willmore. "Additionally, the
SNELL Memorial Foundation
works closely with all of the
manufacturers to conduct open
forum discussions and periodic
meetings where we can share
our experiences with each
standard and what we can do as
an industry to improve.
The new 2015 SNELL
standard does an exceptional
job of protecting the wearer.
However, the research and
testing required to manufacture
and certify helmets to this
new standard is a costly
endeavor. While the benefits
of the SA2015 helmet standard
will be immeasurable, the
pricing for entry level helmets
homologated to this standard
will more than likely see as
much as a 20-percent increase
to an entry level helmet due to
the investment manufacturers
had to make in order to deliver
a helmet this advanced.
Despite the increased cost, a
helmet rated to the SA2015
standard will be well worth the
investment." SJ
