2014/15 REPORT TO OUR COMMUNITY MOUNT SINAI HOSPITAL FOUNDATION 2 1 MOUNT SINAI HOSPITAL FOUNDATION REPORT TO OUR COMMUNITY 2014/15 To our valued donors, Mount Sinai Hospital has had a momentous past year. It was a year of firsts, milestones and new beginnings that will position our organization to push the boundaries and empower us to lead the way in transforming care – all in the name of our patients. Our Hospital Chair, Jay Hennick, and CEO, Joseph Mapa, announced the official launch of Sinai Health System, a new organization resulting from a voluntary amalgamation between Mount Sinai Hospital, Bridgepoint Active Healthcare, the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute and home care provider Circle of Care. Together, our collective organizations are building an integrated health system that provides better, more coordinated care, particularly for those patients with the greatest health needs. Indeed, as the geriatric population in Canada is expected to double in the next two decades, Sinai Health System will be among the few health care centres nationwide that is especially equipped to respond to the health challenges aging Canadians will face. In addition to this exciting news, Mount Sinai has celebrated many other milestones throughout the year. We were the first hospital in Canada to receive Magnet ® designation – the highest and most prestigious international distinction for nursing excellence. We announced a stem cell discovery led by Dr. Andras Nagy that will change the way we treat some of the most challenging health conditions our society faces. We also celebrated the opening of three new units in the Frances Bloomberg Centre for Women's & Infants' Health, marking a new era in the care of mothers and babies, all enabled by leading donor gifts. As we enter the next phase of our campaign, it is with immense gratitude that we announce that we have passed the halfway mark in our Campaign to Renew Sinai, raising an incredible $255 million as of March 31, 2015! Thank you to our entire community of donors and volunteers for your support and commitment. We are grateful that you stand beside us on our journey to $500 million, to improve your hospital and health care. The future for Mount Sinai Hospital and Sinai Health System is bright. Thank you for partnering with us as we strive to discover and translate scientific breakthroughs, develop new models of care and educate the next generation of clinicians and researchers that will change the way health care is delivered. Yours sincerely, Brent Belzberg Kevin Goldthorp Health care is changing because our patients are changing -- particularly because of the increase in chronic, complex conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and arthritis. That is why we created Sinai Health System, which brings together Mount Sinai Hospital, Bridgepoint Active Healthcare, the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute and home care provider Circle of Care. We are building an integrated health system that brings three different care settings together under one umbrella. Care and services -- fuelled by best-in-class research -- that complement and enhance the already exceptional care you've come to know from Mount Sinai Hospital. Thanks to our community of donors, we are reinventing the patient experience and creating a healthier future for all.
