26 The Shop November 2015 ReSTyling/AfTeRmARkeT AcceSSoRieS h e t r u c k a c c e s s o r i e s industry splits its manufacturing, marketing, sales and maintenance efforts between two populations with distinctly different reasons for acces- sorizing their trucks. Like the different lifestyles revealed in Aesop's Fable "The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse," on the surface, the trucks look similar, but under the paint and chrome, these truck owners have different needs and their truck accessories have different reasons for being there. In order to best serve this market, shops need to interview each customer, learn each person's needs, how they intend to use their truck, and then make use of the extensive product resources available from manufacturers both online and in print. To get a glimpse of what this means in terms of product availability, THE SHOP asked manufacturers in the truck caps and tonneau covers market to answer a few questions about how the demands of different truck owners are met. Here's what we found: TrailFX offers the Hard Bi-Fold, Hard Tri-Fold, Soft Tri-Fold and Soft Rolling tonneau covers. The variety of tonneau applications supports the growing truck market, in particular late-model Ford, Chevy, Ram, Toyota and Nissan trucks. All product descriptions, images and appli- cations, including year, make and model, can be found on the TrailFX website via the "smart search" tool. While all of the TrailFX covers are con- structed to withstand consistent everyday use, the hard-surface covers, such as the Hard Bi-Fold and Tri-Fold, are most often utilized in heavy-duty environments such as farm/ranch, construction, etc. A signifi- cant difference in construction is that the hard tonneau covers have a layer of hard board under the vinyl tarp to allow for additional strength and structure. Features of the Hard Bi-Fold include: a unique bi-fold design; a drain system that keeps water out of the bed; strong aluminum panels are UV protected; easy mounting and installation—no drilling is neces- sary; full bed access. Features of the Hard Tri-Fold include: hardcore interior for max- imum security; ships fully assem- bled; removable in less than 60 sec- onds; patented SideArm clamping system; straps allow you to drive worry-free with the cover folded. Features of the Soft Tri-Fold include: quick and easy to use—just fold and go; no assembly is required—no tools or damage to bed; quality construction with only the best materials; superior clamping systems; all-weather seals to keep cargo protected and dry. Features of the Soft Rolling include: sleek, low profile appearance; easy instal- lation and use; superior Velcro fastening; 4-way sealing system; full bed utility; secure rear latching system. Tri-Fold and Bi-Fold covers don't require any tools; therefore, shops don't require any special equipment to accommodate their customers.
