Some companies provide puzzle-fitted sections that look flawless when installed, and are easy to assemble in-shop or in the field. Not Just Stone or Brick Yes, if you can imagine it, it can be created. Barn wood, wood panel- ing, stained wood, aged brick, steel, stucco, cedar shake, wainscot—the possibilities are endless. Foam com- panies can create just about any sur- face, any type and any style of mate- rial for not only the base, but the pole cover and vertical supports, too. Durability and UV Resistance The inevitable question always comes up in my home state of Colorado and around the nation at higher elevations, and that is, "how does it hold up with UV?" Since every manufacturer seems to have their own formula for their UV coat- ing, it's nearly impossible to give an apples to apples comparison. Check with your local suppliers and ask for their UV protection policy. Know what you are purchasing before you do so. All in all, foam is a great alterna- tive to costly stone or brick masonry work, and with a little research, you can find a supplier who will provide you exactly what you need, when you need it.
