ith maybe its deepest roster ever under
Matt Painter on campus currently and only
two four-year seniors departing, Purdue
hasn't desperately needed all that much in its 2016
recruiting class.
Point guard, that's about it. That position is the
only urgent, non-negotiable need.
The Boilermaker coaching staff filled that require-
ment when it landed a commitment from the Houston
area's Carsen Edwards, a high-scoring, sharp-shoot-
ing 6-foot combo guard who'll be slotted to play the
point in college.
"They told me they haven't had a player like me
in a while at the point guard position, a player who
can score the ball as well," Edwards said. "They said
they'd like to have a player like that and they need-
ed a point guard to come in and compete and maybe
make an impact as a freshman. I felt like that's where
I should go."
Edwards, who chose Purdue over offers from Van-
derbilt, Virginia Tech, Baylor, Kansas State, SMU and
a host of others, may have filled Purdue's only press-
ing need for 2016, but he will almost certainly not be
the Boilermakers' only addition.
With as many as three scholarships to offer, at
least as of October, Purdue set its sights too on re-
