8 GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED Vince Edwards Boiler Index: Smoking As a sophomore, Vince Edwards might be the most overlooked member of Purdue's frontcourt, which also features senior A.J. Hammons, a first-team All-Big Ten member, rookie McDonald's All-American Caleb Swanigan and mammoth human Isaac Haas. But most think Edwards is one to watch, equally so, because the forward pushed hard during the offseason. Danielle Cuttino Boiler Index: Steaming As the volleyball team pushes toward the second half of the Big Ten season, it has a budding star in middle blocker Danielle Cuttino. The 6-foot-4 sophomore is very good now, and has a chance to be even better, maybe one of the best in the country before the end of her career. She's starting to realize that potential, ac- cording to Coach Dave Shondell. Bridget Perry Boiler Index: Smoldering The Boilermakers need a go-to player offensively, and maybe junior Bridget Perry can develop into that. She was getting there last season before injuries derailed the second half of her year. Healthy, though, she gives Purdue a versa- tile forward who can be a matchup problem for many opponents. Boiler Index Remember When … It was the begin- ning and the end as Matt Painter and Kristy Curry posed for this cover shot. Paint- er was beginning his first season as head coach after a year as head-coach-in-waiting under Gene Keady. Though it wasn't known at the time, the 2005- 06 campaign would be Curry's last in West Lafayette as her successful run gave way six months later to her hiring at Texas Tech. Photos by Tom Campbell (Edwards, Perry); Purdue (Cuttino) "What has become more and more plain to me (is that) any coach, any staff, would be working uphill with the facilities we've had." President Mitch Daniels on the announcement of the Purdue Football Performance Complex "When we're in system (defensively), you can ask anybody in our league, they don't want to have anything to do with us, because we've got enough offense to make it really, really tough." Volleyball coach Dave Shondell after Purdue's first eight Big Ten matches "We do have a great brand of basketball, that is getting back to our core: Discipline, defense, playing together, loving each other, having fun out on the court." Basketball coach Sharon Versyp at Purdue's preseason banquet Oct. 19
