STARRINKS.COM NOVEMBER.DECEMBER.2015 / 43 black light paint and if it is something that can be put under or in the ice and only seen by the black lights we are definitely going to incorporate it in to our "enter- tainment value" of public skating sessions. // Have there been any mentors along the way that you would like to thank? The Glassman and Britz families, (who own the facility) have done so much for ice sports in the Central Valley, I cannot say enough to thank them. The valley owes them a debt of gratitude for opening and allowing us to maintain this facility at such high standards. As far as mentors in the ice sports indus- try, there have been too many to mention. I owe a lot of rink owners, operators, man- agers, management companies, and STAR for the knowledge and experience I have attained over the year. The ice sports indus- try is such a small niche community and I cannot say enough about how beneficial it is to call industry colleagues for informa- tion as well as have them contact me. // If my ice rink was 237' wide, how many passes would it take to finish and how much time would I need for an ice make? At 237' with a standard 77" blade and zero overlap it would be right at 30 passes over the ice. In reality there is going to be overlap which would press that up to about 32 passes. Assuming the rink was still the standard 200' in length, and depending on how chewed up the ice is from the prior event I would estimate it to take anywhere from 30 to 50 minutes to cut the ice. The dump tank can only hold so much and make-up water need refilling; which we are lucky with the abil- ity to connect a 2" line to the make-up water tank and fill it within 2 minutes. At rinks where filling make up water is done through a 5/8" inch garden hose this pro- cess would take much longer. J
