He told them that their businesses can be places of holi- ness if they commit to fraternal bonds between‹ entrepreneurs, encourage commitment to human interest and seek balance between work and family life. He also noted the many di' culties families can face in the workplace. "How many times has a woman gone to her boss and said 'I am pregnant' and at the end of the month she is let go?" he asked. He also reminded them that the work- place can be a place of evangelization. He said that their ež orts to build holy work- places and spread the Gospel will bear fruit "to the extent that the Gospel is alive and present in your hearts, in your mind and in your actions." SOURCE: VATICAN RADIO Families teach forgiveness During his weekly general audience on Nov. 4, Pope Francis described the family as "the place where we learn the value of forgiveness." The Holy Father said that although forgiveness is often di' cult, it is nec- essary for personal growth. This is why we ask for the grace of it every day in the Our Father. However, it is a virtue that we must also witness at home, he said. "Forgiveness‹strengthens‹families in love and, through them, makes society as a whole more loving and humane," Pope Francis said. He described a forgiving family as a sign of Christian discipleship to the world. "May the coming Jubilee of Mercy encourage families‹everywhere‹to redis- cover the power of forgiveness, and enable the great family of the Church to proclaim the power of God's reconciling love at work in our world," Pope Francis said. SOURCE: VATICAN RADIO Martyrdom: A grace for all Five hundred Salvadorians came to the Vatican to thank Pope Francis for beatifying Archbishop Óscar Romero. The archbishop was assassinated as he celebrated Mass in 1980. Pope Francis spoke of the beauty of the archbishop's martyrdom, specifi - cally in that he died while celebrating the Eucharist and sealed the Gospel he was proclaiming with his own blood. However, the Pope stressed that martyrs are not born; they are made by accepting God's grace. All are called to the life of a martyr. The pope recalled the archbishop's words when he said, "We must be willing to die for our faith, even if the Lord does not give us this honor." The pope added that martyrs are not simply historical fi gures, but are instead brothers and sisters who walk with us today, and who, "united to Christ, [do] not ignore our earthly pilgrimage, our suž erings, our agonies."
