8 THE GUESTLIST NETWORK www.guestlist.net Issue 37 / MAR-APR 2012 LONDON´S SUNSHINE SESSIONS ! With the last of the snow melting away and the worst of winter surely behind us, spring is - we hope- right around the corner. Days are getting lighter and longer, and the wonderful warmth of the sun´s rays will soon invigorate our pale, scurvy-ridden bodies with all the Vitamin D we could wish for. To toast the onset of milder weather, here are the three best daytime parties that London has to offer. Reggae Roast @ VARIOUS LOCATIONS 3-piece sound system team Reggae Roast has built up a sturdy reputation in the last five years having seduced crowds with their luscious mix of dub-reggae, Jamaican cuisine and good vibes. Their famed BBQ sessions at Big Chill take this tried and tested recipe and transform it by adding their own extra spice. Jaded @ CABLE Raymundo Rodriguez has become something of a stalwart on London's after-party scene with his infamous Jaded night down at AKA at Cable. You'll find all manner of folk continuing from the night before as well as those who've woken up early just to make it down! Sunday - 05.30-12.00. £12 on the door / £8 members & conc. Dirtybird BBQ @ EAST LONDON WAREHOUSE Tickets have already sold out for Dirtybird's notorious Golden Gate BBQ on April 7th but if you managed to get one you can expect to see all the usual suspects and some extra special guests (Julio Bashmore, Eats Everything, Breach and more). It's going to be enormous! RADIO 1 SHAKES UP THE DANCE MUSIC SCHEDULE A LITTLE On April 2nd, a major shake- up will take place at Radio 1 in a move that sees the departure of Gilles Peterson, Fabio & Grooverider, Kissy Sell Out and Judge Jules. Replacing them are Skream & Benga, Toddla T, Charlie Sloth and Friction, as well as a new show dubbed the 'Radio 1 Residency'. As much as we love the guys coming in, we can't help but feel dismayed by the departure of such pioneering DJs as Gilles and Fabio & Groove, still in their prime. It is of course necessary to adapt to the times, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. RADIO 1'S NEW LINE UP Friction (Mon 2am-4am) • Charlie Sloth (Tues 2am-4am) • Toddla T (Fri 2am-4am) • Skream & Benga (Fri 11pm-1am) New controller Ben Cooper considers the cull a necessary step, a measure to ensure that the station hits their target audience. It feels to us like a bit of a thoughtless attempt to get 'down with the kids', but maybe that's just because we're getting old. Either way, we wanted to wish the best of luck to the new guys, and the fondest farewell to their predecessors.
