www.potatogrower.com 15 The Tuckers have been farming near the hamlet of Gabriels, N.Y., on the north slope of the Adirondack Mountains, since 1864. Brothers Tom, Steve and Dick Tucker represent the fifth generation on the 400- acre farm. For most of the farm's existence, the Tuckers have grown potatoes on a three-year rotation with grains such as oats, rye and buckwheat. HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR Tucker Farms has been instrumental in bringing to market the relatively new varieties Adirondack Red and Adirondack Blue. FUN AND GAMES Agritourism has proven to be a nice source of extra revenue for the Tuckers. People from all over upstate New York to come to the Tucker pumpkin patch and corn maze. LOTS TO LEARN Local schools have come to trust Tucker Farms as a place where kids can come to learn about the inner workings of agriculture.
