One of these is Mike Smith,
co-ower of Herbst/Smith
Fabrication, who was busy
working on a new Trophy Truck
and a few other projects like the
new TT Spec Toyota; all while
managing a staff of engineers
and off-road technicians.
Smith and crew were also
preparing two of the Herbst/
Smith Trophy Trucks for the Baja
1000, as well as the pre-runner
vehicles for each driver and
the support vehicles that are
slated for each racing vehicle.
Immediately you get the
idea of what it means to be
a part of Team Herbst/Smith
Motorsports. The preparations
for any race is enormous, but
for the SCORE Baja 1000, it
requires twice the effort and
thought for the team to be
prepared for anything that can
happen while they're in Mexico.
Needless to say, the entire
facility is spotless while they
are all working on the vehicles.
Tools and equipment are locked
in matching red cabinets, and
the floors are so clean that you
could practically do surgery
on them. Everything is in its
place, labeled, stored and
efficiently arranged so that
there's never a chance that
something is missing in action.
That seems to be the Team
Herbst/Smith strategy; to form
a well-oiled group of serious
desert racers with a mind for
winning championships. SJ
