BY JEFF SLADE & BRANDON BROWN O n Nov. 1, the Michigan men's cross country team ended a 16-year drought, capturing its first Big Ten title since the 1998 campaign. The Wolverines placed five scorers among the top-25 overall finishers at the event in Chicago, totaling 63 points to beat runner-up Illinois by 18 points. "The feeling is a little surreal watching it happen," said head coach Kevin Sullivan, who was named Big Ten Cross Country Coach of the Year. "It's really a sense of pride, not in myself, but in the fact that we had nine guys that all showed up on the day and had a collective effort and collective goal to win the championship. "I'm very proud of them, and re- ally happy to see them fulfill that goal." Michigan's women's cross coun- try team also performed at a high level, taking runner-up honors at the Big Ten Championships Nov. 1, marking the sixth time in the past   OLYMPIC SPORTS HIGHS AND LOWS Michigan's Cross Country Teams Excelled This Fall, While The Soccer Teams Were Left With Disappointment Junior Erin Finn captured the individual title at the Big Ten Championships for the second time in her career, but Michigan finished second in the team competition.
