I n the days leading up to Michigan's game at Indiana, subscribers on TheWolverine.com's premium message board, The Fort, were asked two questions: Who is the most improved player on this year's team? And which posi- tion coach has done the best job considering what he had to work with? Most years, the re- sponses are obvious, but after 10 contests, The Fort had too many options to choose from: redshirt junior defensive tackle Ryan Glasgow, redshirt junior cornerback Jer- emy Clark, junior safety Dymonte Thomas, redshirt sophomore de- fensive tackle Maurice Hurst Jr., junior defensive end Taco Charlton, redshirt junior placekicker Kenny Allen, redshirt junior left guard Ben Braden, senior fullback Sione Houma and redshirt junior wide re- ceiver Jehu Chesson. Meanwhile, in the coaching ranks, it could easily be cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich, safeties coach Greg Jackson, defensive line coach Greg Mattison, receivers coach Jedd Fisch or special teams coach John Baxter. "Coaching. Coaching. Coaching. I don't know that I've ever been as impressed with the coaching up of players as I've been this year, from every position group and from the head coach," said TheWolver- ine.com analyst and former All- American linebacker Ron Simpkins (1976-79). "You remember earlier in the year when [ABC/ ESPN television analyst] Chris Spielman was do- ing one of our games and he said that Michigan had one player that could start at Ohio State … how many would he say now? A lot more than one. "These are the same guys that everyone in the media said were no good last season. These are the same guys that early in the season couldn't play for Ohio State according to Spielman, and here we are with receivers that now are making big plays, a solid running back rotation of three to four guys, a quarterback throwing for 300 yards, the best combination of tight ends and fullbacks I'd say anywhere in the country. "You've got defensive linemen like Chris Wormley, Willie Henry and Ryan Glasgow that are domi- nant players, and defensive backs that aren't allowing any space for quarterbacks to throw the ball.
