Player Profiles Rick Salter Rick Salter started playing polo at Myopia in 2001. He now lives in Florida, but plays polo in Aiken, S.C., and Flor- ida, as well as summers in Hamilton. Rick likes to play forward and recently became certified as an umpire. (Handicap: A) Connor Snow A startup player, Connor, 16, moved from Atlanta , Georgia to school in Ipswich this past year. He has ridden and stick and balled with his father for several years during the summer and played his first tournament polo with his older brother Nick in the Eddie Moore Tournament in MillBrook, N.Y. last summer where they lost in the finals by a goal. (0 goals) Crocker Snow, Jr. Myopia's senior polo veteran started playing in college during the rebirth of polo at Myopia in the early 1960s and has played ever since, broken only by years living abroad as a foreign correspondent. Crocker has played in the U.K., Germany, Egypt, Iran, India, Malaysia, Singapore, The Philippines, Ecuador, Colombia, and Argentina. Once rated at 4 goals, he now normally plays the back position and is co-coach of the Harvard polo team. The director of the Edward R. Murrow Center at the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy, he resides in Ipswich. (1 goal) Katherine "Cissie" Snow Harvard polo coach Cissie has been both manager and player throughout the South and has directed the Polo Training Foundation's Brushy Creek Ranch in Texas. A certified grade-B umpire, she has coached interscholastic and intercollegiate teams such as TCU and Texas Tech, whose men's team won the national intercollegiates in 2008. 24 Myopia polo 2011 Dave Strouss A regular at Myopia since 1994, Dave is from a polo- playing family in the Midwest and learned the game from his father, Bud Strouss. His team, Del Rancho, has won many tournaments, including the USPA Chairman's Cup 12-goal. Myopia's delegate to the U.S. Polo Association, Dave practices law in Boston and lives in Ipswich with his wife, Tracy, his two daughters, five dogs, and nine horses. Will Tankard A resident of Aiken, S.C., Will, 26, grew up playing polo with his mother, Cissie, at vari- ous clubs in the South and in Texas. He captained the championship Texas Tech team that won the National Intercollegiates in 2008 and being one of 15 under 25's named to Team USPA last year. A good rider and clean hitter and B- rated USPA umpire, he is comfortable in all positions and will play with and coach the Colloredo-Mansfeld Black Oak team this summer. (3 goals) Formerly rated at 2 goals, Cissie is often seen playing or umpiring on her favorite paint horse, Rosie. (1 goal) Nick Snow The highest-rated homegrown player currently at Myopia, Nick, 25, played with his father and older brothers as a teen- ager and later captained the Harvard polo team. A big hitter and good horseman, Nick was named to Team USPA last year and will compete in the FIP World Championship for the U.S. in the preliminary rounds in the Dominican Republic. He has trained for the last two autumn seasons in Argentina and plays in Florida in the winter. An A-rated USPA umpire, Nick will be playing part of the summer at Myopia. (4 goals) Rory Torrey Rory, Myopia's polo manager, has played polo for 16 years and was awarded the USPA In- terscholastic Player of the Year and Intercollegiate Player of the Year awards in 1999 and 2004, respectively. He has man- aged high-goal teams The Emerging in West Sussex, England, and Jedi in Wellington, FL. As a manager, Rory has participated in many prestigious tournaments, including the Queen's Cup, the Gold Cup (U.K. and U.S.), the Prince of Wales Cup, and the U.S. Open. (2 goals) Federico Wulff Federico grew up playing polo in Buenos Aires and is a knowledgeable horseman and tactician of the sport. He has played extensively in Aiken, S.C., Colorado, and Florida. Last year was Federico's first season playing at Myopia; he returns this season as a Myopia employee. Philip Zocco Returning for his fifth season as a regular member of Myopia Polo and raising his handicap to zero goals, Philip has also played with clubs in Arizona and Florida. Adding three new horses in the off season to his string of polo ponies should add to his healthy polo addiction. Rebecca Zocco Becca is a polo product of two experienced Torrey family members. Club Manager Rory Torrey has instructed Becca in Myopia's own coaching league program. For the past two seasons, Becca has been a member of The Glen Farm girls' inter- scholastic polo team in Newport, R.I., has competed in the Women's Regionals, and has been coached by Rory's dad, Ted Torrey.
