He needs to improve on his screen and roll play and finish stronger through contact, his father said, to fit well at Michigan. They'll work on it more this year after playing with five guards last season. Receiving a Michigan offer would be an honor, West Sr. said. "I followed Coach Beilein from a distance when he was here at West Virginia, and he represented the pro- gram so well when he was here," he noted. "I loved his system. I'm a par- ent that's a realist, because I've been through it. Once I realized Jarrod could compete at that level, I reached out and knew the type of player they liked … smart kid, four-year player, a coach's son. Jarrod fits that system very well. "When you're in this business, you learn who is real and who is not. With Coach Beilein I never felt like I get a spiel, or he's trying to talk me off the phone. As a dad or coach I'd have no problem sending my son to Coach Beilein. I don't want to say we're crossing our fingers, but the business side is setting in.
