GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 26, ISSUE 3 37 Andreona Keys 24 5-10 • G • So. Breakdown: Keys' ability to get to the basket has been a two-fold positive: Because of her strength, she can get up shots in traffic, and her aggressiveness frequently sets others up. In a small lineup, Keys has been able to board, too, averaging 5.3 per game. Stat Watch: Of Keys' 53 rebounds through the first 10 games, 23 came off the offensive end, second only to Perry's 24. Torrie Thornton 4 6-0 • F • Sr. (5) Breakdown: Thornton is not a natural 5, but she's been forced to play there – nine starts in the first 10 games – because the Boilermakers have no other experienced option. Her length and quickness give her some ability to match up, but she'll be challenged against bigger league opponents. Stat Watch: Although she's started nine of Purdue's first 10 games, Thornton is averaging only 13.4 minutes per game. Ashley Morrissette 1 5-9 • G • Jr. Breakdown: Through the first 10 games this season, Morrissette averaged 1.26 points for every shot she attempted, up from .95 per last season. Point being, she's been much more efficient with her selection, taking good shots – and making them – more frequently. That's worrisome to opponents. Stat Watch: Morrissette's three-point shooting clip of 45.8 would rank third all-time in Purdue history over a full season. Bree Horrocks 22 6-5 • C • So. Breakdown: Horrocks had a crazy quarter against Incarnate Word, when she hit all seven of her field goals for 15 points, an illustration of her offensive ability. But foot speed continues to be a challenge, which hurts her on the defensive end and on the glass. Stat Watch: Horrocks is one of only five players (and second this season; Keys) in school history to be 100 percent from the floor in at least seven attempts. Nora Kiesler 12 6-6 • C • Fr. Breakdown: The freshman has produced off the bench for the Boilermakers at times, especially when they face opponents with similar skill- sets. Then, her physicality is an advantage. But she gets in trouble when she rushes, a reason why she's shot less than 38 percent from the field. Stat Watch: Kiesler had a strong Florida trip, averaging six points and 6.3 rebounds in four games. Dominique McBryde 20 6-2 • F • Fr. Breakdown: McBryde shows the occasional sign that she's a potential budding star, like when she spins quickly in the paint for a left-handed bank shot, or when she drives hard to the hoop. Those instances were becoming more regular by mid-December. Stat Watch: In back-to- back December games vs. Cardinals (Incarnate Word, Ball State), McBryde totaled 19 points and six boards. Tiara Murphy 3 5-7 • G • Fr. Breakdown: A stress reaction in Murphy's left leg has kept her out since early December, but Sharon Versyp is hoping for a return when Big Ten play starts. Purdue could use a healthy backup point guard, especially if she's hitting shots. Stat Watch: Murphy hit two of her first three career three-pointers, but she was out most of December.
