And defensive tackle Jake Replogle just may be the defense's best player, joining what appears to be a finally-gets-it Evan Panfil, one-more-season-left motivated Ra'Zahn Howard and potential-packed Gelen Robinson up front. If nothing else, there are no excuses for not being better with that kind of tal- ent in the front seven. That may be the story for 2016 across the board … BRIGHT SPOTS Jones and D.J. Knox are backs who excite with their ability to slip through holes, deliver blows, jump over defenders and bust out of piles. DeAngelo Yancey is one of the best big-play receivers Purdue has had in years — he had eight catches of at least 25 yards en route to a 700-yard season. Even better, he's matured into a player fu- eled by failure, meaning those just-miss- es against Michigan State, Northwestern and Iowa still sting, making him an even more dangerous player in his final sea- son. Replogle just may be the most domi- nant D-lineman nobody seems to talk about, probably because he doesn't wow in any one statistical category. But he emerged as a consistent beastly player up front as a junior, and, with victories, could be an all-conference-type as a se- nior. Much more talent will need to rise and play to top potential — it's what Hazell calls being an "A" player — for the losses to flip columns in 2016.
