growth and maturity is needed.
Of the 22 scholarship freshmen on Pur-
due's roster, only six played in games this
season.
But what running back Markell Jones did
in his first season maybe made up for any
guys stuck on the bench redshirting. Jones
had a record-breaking freshman year —
nearly 900 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns

After rushing for nearly 3,600 yards as a senior in
high school, Markell Jones wasn't quite sure what
realistic goals were as a freshman at Purdue. But
becoming the school's record-holder for freshmen
in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and yards-
per-carry average wasn't a bad way to start a
career.
