The 45-acre estate was at one time the home of Lord Howard of Effingham, Lord High Admiral of the Fleet sent against the Armada. The site retains the appearance of an attractive country estate, and the original buildings have been supplemented by many additions and improvements over the years. This at a time when many would consider this a quiet period. So, to fit into the tight timeframes, Daniel and his team have instigated a programme of renovation including vigorous scarification, aeration, topdressing and overseeding – at 35 gms per m 2 – plus fertilisation, based on controlled-release granule feeds and liquid top ups of nutrients and bio-stimulants. The result has been a balanced growth pattern, a good response to wear and a low incidence of pests and diseases. Indeed, Daniel has also instigated an integrated pest management programme with the aim of reducing the use of pesticides and to improve plant and soil health.
