ISSUE #1 TODAY at a Glance www.spudman.com Wednesday, January 13, 2016 Exceeding expectations By Randy Hardy and Brett Jensen Co-chairmen, POTATO EXPO 2016 Steering Committee W elcome to the eighth annual POTATO EXPO! On behalf of the steering committee, we are truly excited to welcome you to Las Vegas for the largest potato industry conference and trade show in North America. is year we are pleased to announce two milestones: for the first time attendance has exceeded 2,000 attendees and we also have a record-breaking 176 exhibitors. POTATO EXPO is unique for bringing together growers, packers, shippers and every other link in the potato supply chain. Having attended each EXPO, we have witnessed firsthand that no other event brings the potato industry together in a more comprehensive setting. From the trade show floor to learning what organizations such as National Potato Council, U.S. Potato Board, United Potato Growers and others are contributing to the greater good, there are multiple chances to make new connections and get more involved. e networking that occurs here between growers and organizations will unite our industry to work toward common goals. e benefits from networking with processors, marketers, vendors and other producers are endless; take advantage of those moments, from the trade show to coffee breaks and hurried walks down the hallways. Networking receptions are always a highlight aer a full day at the sessions, and this year features targeted receptions for women in the industry, young professionals and Potato Industry Leadership Institute Alumni. But it's not all networking! A history of featuring inspirational speakers continues in 2016, starting with Supermarket Guru Phil Lempert, who speaks this morning on consumer views. Yesterday Lempert guided attendees through the Spud Nation rowdown, a potato recipe cook-off featuring three food truck chefs and highlighting the broad appeal of potatoes and mobile food trucks. e Spudman Toda y [ [ EXPECTATIONS continued on page 5 2016 Show Daily • Chef Jeff Henderson, Page 3 • Myth busters with the Supermarket Guru, Page 4 INSIDE Randy Hardy Brett Jensen FULL SCHEDULE on page 9 Show Hours Wednesday, January 13 Registration 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rotunda Trade Show 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. EXPO STAGE SESSION 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Potential of Drone Technology and How It Can Change Agriculture Robert Blair, vice president of agriculture, Measure GENERAL SESSION Grand Ballroom 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Trends: Consumers' Views on Food and Shopping Phil Lempert, the Supermarket Guru 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Panel: Food Truck Operator Insights into their Consumers and Potatoes EXPO STAGE SESSION 10:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Water Challenges and Opportunities: An Overview Dan Keppen, executive director, Family Farm Alliance 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. A State Perspective on Water Irrigation Supply Issues Moderator: Dan Keppen, executive director, Family Farm Alliance KEYNOTE LUNCHEON Grand Ballroom 12:15 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. If You Can See It, You Can Be It Chef Jeff Henderson
