ast fall's 48th running of
the legendary SCORE
Baja 1000 was one of
the toughest in years.
Fewer than half of the
239 vehicles that started
the race in Ensenada, Mexico
completed the 821-mile loop
back to the scenic seaside city.
Claiming the Class-2 victory,
however, was one of many
achievements by the team
of Jeff Proctor, Sage Marie
and Jason LaFortune, who
competed in an all-new Honda
Ridgeline race truck. It was not
only the debut for the vehicle,
which wore bodywork that
previewed the new, second-
generation production Ridgeline
that Honda introduced earlier
this year, but it also introduced
a unique version of Honda's
twin-turbocharged V-6
racing engine, developed
exclusively for off-road racing.
Producing around 550
horsepower, the twin-turbo
engine helped push the team
across the finish line in 25 hours,
9 minutes and 47 seconds. It
was a strong time for a race
