MON.-F RI. OPEN'TILL NOONSATURDAYS The Village of Westport started hauling wastewater to Smiths Falls late last week in the first of what was expected to be a 10- day operation to remove 10,000 cubic metres. A total of 32 truckloads were removed as of the end of the day Friday. As of Monday, that effort, along with some Snowfluent processing had lagoon one down to 162 cm deep. As of Monday, Jan. 18, lagoon one was at 172 cm – its capacity is 180 cm – when council decided to kick in the trucking plan. Daily flows into the system had slowed to an average of 285 m3 per day with the arrival of cold weather. That could change with Tuesday's light rain and 4°C temper- atures as illegal sump pumps and other potential infiltration increases. In 2014, figures showed the water system produced only 60 per cent of what arrived in the lagoons with the other 40 per cent coming from somewhere else. The weather for the next week will hamper snowmaking efforts as only two nights and no days will be cold enough between now and Feb. 3- 4. The cost to truck the 10,000 m3 is $120,000. Lagoon two, usually reserved for summer land application the last few years, is still at its 170cm capacity.
